Cockermouth Mechanics Brass Band is a large band of usually 30 or more players. We usually perform three well-supported concerts per year, as well as representing the town and its regular calendar of ceremonies: Carnival, Armistice Parade, Arts Festival, Civic functions, Christmas celebrations, etc. In addition, we also play at Cockermouth, Keswick, and Loweswater agricultural shows, three or more charity functions per year, and at our local Old Folks homes at Christmas.
We do not take part in brass band competitions which means that we don’t have to turn folk away because we are oversubscribed e.g. we currently have up to five Baritone Horn players; we just take it, in turn, to stay tacit in the quiet sections!
We also have a linked Apprentice Band for both young players and adult beginners. This band has recently been supported by a grant of £1,000 from Cumbria County Council which has allowed us to purchase five new cornets for young people. We are well equipped with instruments and can usually lend people an instrument. We prioritize young people when it comes to lending an instrument
